World Cup 2010
The international equestrian competition “FEI World Cup 2010 Celje”, held from 26. – 28. November 2010 in Equestrian Centre Celje, offered quite a few peculiarities and records.
The opening ceremony, which was accompanied by a performance of Lipizzaner horses, a majorette performance from Laško and a horse police squad from Maribor, began with the opening speeches of Mr Hugo Bosio, president of the Organising committee, followed by Mr Bojan Šrot, the mayor of city Celje and a member of the Honorary committee. The opening of the competition was performed by the Minister of Education and Sport, dr Igor Lukšič, also the president of the Honorary committee.
In the three days riders competed with their horses in five different categories. The main event, the World Cup competition, was won by Juan Carlos Garcia from Italy with his horse Hilton Highlight.
Equestrian Centre Celje proved to be an excellent organiser, who besides many riders and horses, there was 275 horses from 19 countries, attracted to its grandstands viewers not only from Celje but also visitors from the whole Slovenia and abroad.
It has to be said that a World Cup competition was organised for the first time in an inside arena, which with its quality, modern infrastructure and equipment enables the organisation of equestrian events on the highest level.
